Boston Area Jewish Parents Get School Tuition Help

Combined Jewish Philanthropies will expand its successful affordability program that has made it possible for more families to send their children to Jewish Day School. The program, “Discover Day School” now offers qualifying families “CJP Discover Day School Checks” to cover up to $6,000 toward tuition at any of Greater Boston’s 10 K-8 Jewish day schools. CJP launched the Discover Day School program last year, offering $4,000 (up to 25 percent of tuition) for families enrolling their children in Jewish Day School kindergarten.

To qualify, families must be new to day school, decline any school-based financial assistance and have a “middle tier” annual income (on average, between $100,000 and $240,000). If the families continue to qualify, they will be eligible for additional Discover Day School Checks for up to three consecutive years of day school through 8th grade.

In its launch year, the program has helped 10 percent of the current kindergarten cohort attend Jewish day school. More than 3,500 unique visitors came to DiscoverDaySchool.org, a website that serves as a gateway to important information about Greater Boston’s day schools, financial assistance options and special education services. While the program targets middle tier families, it helps bring more children of all economic backgrounds into Jewish day schools by freeing up funds from each school’s financial aid program.
