I want to add that the corruption has extended to private property of Jewish heirs. My grandfather founded a company “Ziarno” which was owned by our family according to 1938 records. We were unable to recover the property as we did not have the shares to present as proof. Unfortunately my grandfather was unable to carry the shares to the oven in Auschwitz. Ziarno was sold by the Polish government to a British company it is now a condominium development in Podgorze. None of the 6 survivors received any compensation

I would like to add that I would like to thank Severyn Ahkenazzy and Rabbi Beliak for their efforts to investigate and publicize the illigality of the disposition of Jewish property in Poland. Other European countries including Germany have made considerable effort to compensate and return all property to its legal Jewish owners.

Mr. Ashkenazi, Rabbi Beliak and Uri Regev are all believers in versions of reform and progressive Judaism. They are entitled to their prefered form of religious worship. But why should the income from the sale of orthodox synagogues in which rabbis fought against reform and progressive versions of religion in their sermons in the 1920s and 30s, be used to benefit the development of reform Judaism. That would be a misuse of funds.

    Dear Avreimale

There is only one question at this moment: Where is the accounting for the funds from the sale of pre-World War II property? The second question is who has this money?

If we get answers to those two questions then we can ask what projects should support the future of Polish Jewish life. So far the people (Piotr Kadlcik, Monica Kraczwyk, Rabbi Schudrich, etc) controlling Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland (FODZ) and Union of Jewish Communities in Poland (ZGWZ) and representatives of Poland’s Ministry of Administration and Digitalisation (MAC) have employed their dubious talents to silence Forbes. (Why would Rabbi Walter Homulka of Germany and Ron Lauder of the USA not want to know where this money is?)

Avreimale please understand that most of pre-World War II Polish Jewry was not voting Orthodox. In the last community elections before September 1, 1939 — 70% of the community voted Bundist or Zionist. Many thousands of Jews in pre-World War II Poland attended Progressive synagogues in Lviv, Krakow, Chestochowa, Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw (Breslau). The Progressive Jewish community in Poland dates to the 1820’s which is approximately when Hassidism came to Poland.

One month has passed since the distinguished Forbes journalists (Eryk Stankunowica, Nissan Tsur, Wojciech Surmacz) wrote. All we hear is threats and curses. Where is the ledger? Why do questions about the integrity of Jewish life begin and end with the charge that people who seek to understand and shine the light of day are anti-semites? Shande!!
