Keep In Touch

If cost has been one of the barriers to using Flickr in your nonprofit's outreach efforts, this may tip the balance. The photo-sharing service announced today that it has teamed up with TechSoup, in a new program called Flickr for Good, to give away 10,000 one-year Flickr Pro accounts to nonprofits and public libraries. According to Flickr... "A photo gives us the ability to see what goes on in the world, but can also move us to ...

Don’t Toss Out the Old

Here at eJewish Philanthropy we've spent months speaking about online fundraising and social networks. Little did I know some in our Jewish world are still finding validity with radio to reach their target audience! Take a peak at a current AJC initiative. And keep in mind the use of this line in the advert: Charity Navigator and the American Institute of Philanthropy give AJC the highest grades for integrity and efficiency.

March 4, 2008 - New York - Israelis are enduring daily rocket attacks from Gaza and need your help, says American Jewish Committee Executive Director David A. Harris. “People near the border have been killed, houses damaged, and children scarred for life,” he says ...

The Secret to Getting People to Give

15 Reasons Why People Donate

You can email your donor base until you're blue in the face. You can make your donate button larger than the vat of coffee sitting between you and your computer monitor (yes, we can see it from here). You can share the latest statistics about your cause, and even make your brochure look flashy while you're at it.

Ready to Lead? Next Generation Leaders Speak Out

A skilled, committed, and diverse pool of next generation leaders would like to be nonprofit executive directors in the future, according to a new national survey of nearly 6,000 next generation leaders. However, the survey also finds that there are significant barriers: work-life balance, insufficient life-long earning potential, lack of mentorship and overwhelming fundraising responsibilities which may prevent many younger nonprofit staff from becoming executives. The survey, Ready to Lead? Next Generation Leaders Speak Out, is the largest national survey to date of emerging nonprofit leaders and was produced by the Meyer Foundation in partnership with CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, The Annie E. Casey Foundation and Idealist.org. According to the Urban ...

Wake Up and Smell The Coffee

Some doom-sayers worry about the intermarriage rate; others the shrinking birthrate in the Jewish community; or the lack of reasonably priced communal affiliation. Guess for these people the glass is always half empty. For those of us on the other side, those of us who see the beginnings of a new golden age of Jewish communal innovation, those of us out in the trenches (so to speak) with the new, young innovators, the students in the various professional programs, and the just all around 'younger' interested and non-affiliated, not only is the glass not half empty, it's close to overflowing! The most recent example, this past week's Jewlicious Festival 4.0. Writing on the Jewlicious blog, "ck" ...

Preparing OUR Next Generation

"The nonprofit sector is at a major crossroads. After years of humming along at a familiar pace of ongoing programs, stable leadership, and status quo fundraising, a new wave of change is happening right before our very eyes. The thousands of idealistic baby boomers that started nonprofit organizations 20 years ago are calling it quits and retiring from their leadership positions in the coming years. You’ve no doubt heard about it, but I’ll just confirm it for you here: there is indeed a leadership crisis looming ahead for the nonprofit sector. At least three out of four executive directors plan to leave their jobs within the next five years and about ...

JNF’s Newest Gig: A Car Rally from London to Jerusalem

As part of the celebrations for Israel's 60th, the JNF is aiming to raise $500,000 for residents of the Negev desert. The plan: an 18 day rally, during which drivers will meander on a pleasant route through continental Europe before crossing the Mediterranean by either boat or cargo plane. The convoy will be made up of several prominent members of the U.K.'s Jewish community, along with participants from Ireland, Switzerland and the U.S. Being a fundraising event, participation in the rally will not come cheap. Cost per person is about $35,000, with the honor of leading the convoy - and being the first person to drive through the Knesset gates - a cool $100K. However, the ...

Time’s Running Out

Do you know someone graduating college this Spring? Think they could contribute to our Jewish world? Hillel's Schusterman International Center is accepting applications for its 2008-2009 Schusterman International Center Fellowships in Washington, DC. Putting Idealism into Practice, Israeli Style

“The involvement of business people is the Zionism of today." So says Kiryat Shemona Mayor Haim Barbivai as he speaks about the Israel Venture Network. One of IVN's core values is their belief in the untapped potential of the business community for improving the State of Israel in the 21st century. With a focus on three pillars, strengthening the education system in Israel, investing in social leadership and creating economic opportunities, IVN leverages their investments by partnering with leading non-profits and government agencies. But who is IVN? According to Laura Goldman, writing today for Israel21C... "They're the movers and shakers behind Israel's recent entrée into the international business arena - the innovators, entrepreneurs, and executives who ...

A Good Return On Investment

The Jewish Funders Network and Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education announced they have awarded 199 grants – totaling over $15 million – to Jewish day schools across North America through its 2007-2008 MATCH donor incentive program. This year’s program attracted 76 first-time donors and 123 previous donors. MATCH funds support Jewish day schools across all denominations, including Conservative, Reform, Orthodox, as well as non-denominational community schools. “Supporting Jewish day schools that provide an outstanding general and religious education has proven to be a good return on investment for philanthropists,” said Rabbi Josh Elkin, executive director of PEJE. “The MATCH program offers a unique way to identify and motivate new donors, whose contributions assure ...
